People around the world who are fans of superstar Rajinikanth, have been eagerly waiting for the release of ‘Kaala’ which is all set to release this Thursday (June 7). But the movie is unlikely to have a smooth sailing. Miffed with Rajinikanth’s reported comments that whichever government coming to power in Karnataka should implement the Supreme Court order on Cauvery water sharing, Karnataka Film Chambers of Commerce (KFCC) had on May 29 decided not to allow screening of ‘Kaala’. The Supreme Court though has cleared the decks for the film’s release.
What is the fuss all about?
As mentioned above, The Karnataka film industry is upset with Rajinikanth’s reported statement on implementation of the Supreme Court order on Cauvery water sharing. So, miffed with Rajinikanth’s comments, the KFCC decided to not to allow the screening of the ‘Kaala’.
Rajinikanth has a great fan following in Karnataka, especially in Bengaluru and Kolar, where there is a considerable Tamil population. But the 67-year-old actor’s comments on the Cauvery issue have often made him the target of pro-Kannada organisations. But only Cauvery backfired on Rajinikanth, his controversial statements regarding the Tuticorin protests in Tamil Nadu also did not go well down with people. Rajinikanth had sparked a controversy over his statement that seemed to justify police firing that killed 13 people demanding the closure of the Sterlite copper smelter plant.
The superstar’s decision to hold “anti-social elements” responsible for the violence was seen to echo the ruling AIADMK government’s line and left people fuming. Rajinikanth had also gone on to say that protests are turning Tamil Nadu into a graveyard. But later, Rajinikanth apologised for his comments and said did not mean to people’s sentiments.
Though people are eagerly waiting for the film’s release, Rajinikanth’s comments have created a political turmoil. Whether Rajini’s film hits the box office with the huge number or whether it tanks only time will tell. But surely, Rajinikanth has stirred a few controversies which could impact his outrageous fan-following.
