MS Dhoni Hates Being Called ‘Sir’ As Yuzvendra Chahal Found Out On His Debut

MS Dhoni is known as Captain Cool for his ability to keep calm under pressure. He is also seen as an elder statesman to many youngsters and obviously there is a lot of respect for him.

While the man has no problem at being addressed by respect, one title he does not like is ‘sir’. Yes, Dhoni hates being called that and makes it a point to clarify it if someone should do so.

MS Dhoni has played for India since 2004

In 2016, Yuzvendra Chahal found that out first hand. He was picked to go to Zimbabwe and got his first international cap. Dhoni, who was the skipper, handed it to him. Chahal referred to him as ‘sir’ and was corrected then and there.

“I received the ODI cap from MS Dhoni. He is a legend and the first time I met him I was not even able to talk in front of him. When I met him for the first time in Zimbabwe I used called him Mahi Sir. After a while, he called me over and said, ‘Mahi, Dhoni, Mahendra Singh Dhoni or Bhai… Call me whatever you want but not sir’,” revealed Chahal on the show Breakfast with Champions.

Since then Chahal does not call him sir and for that matter his teammates also never address him by that name.

Dhoni has been a part of the side since 2004. From a dashing keeper batsman to a calm skipper and now a seasoned veteran – his career has been one roller coaster and is still not over.
