The recently film – Mahanati is currently a rage. Ever since its release on May 9th, the film has been storming the US box office. Within two days of its release, the film had already crossed half a million. Four days later, the movie was setting a new record of crossing the $1M mark. And now as per the latest update the film has already crossed the $1.5M mark! The film is creating new records for women-centric films. While movies like Bhaagamathie and English Vinglish have ruled the box office, Mahanati has managed to create records in less than a week! For those who don’t know Mahanati is based on the life of yesteryear Telugu actress – Savithri who ruled Tollywood at one point. The movie chronicles her rise to stardom and gives us a glimpse of who she really was, when the cameras weren’t rolling. Stepping into her shoes was Keerthy Suresh. Ever since the release, fans, critics, celebs have been raving about a fantastic performance. They can’t stop praising her for her realistic portrayal of the iconic actress. It is begin declared her best performance till date. Praises have poured in for Dulquer Salmaan as well who played Gemini Ganesan, Savithri’s husband. The movie in fact marked Dulquer’s debut in Tollywood. The film also starred Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Vijay Devarakonda who were also praised for their characters in the film. Nag Ashwin who helmed this project has been lauded for his commendable act.

The biopic released in Telugu as Mahanati and in Tamil as Nadigayar Thilagam. Here’s what Keerthy Suresh had to say about working with newcomer – Nag Ashwin. “We had the narration session for almost three hours. Until someone else has told, I would have never known or felt that the director has little experience. The very thought of making a biopic on Savitri amma itself is very mature. Not everybody can think like that or pull it off as he did. I never had any apprehensions about his experience because he has done his part well.”
