Indian women’s cricket team, who have won all six editions of the Asia Cup, defeated Pakistan to make it to the final of the ongoing Asia Cup T20 tournament in Malaysia and aim for a record seventh title.
In a low-scoring clash at Kuala Lumpur, the Indian women’s team successfully chased down Pakistan’s total of 72/7, registering a win by seven wickets and 23 balls to spare. Ekta Bisht was named the Player of the Match for her splendid spell of 4-0-14-3.
It went wrong for the Pakistani women’s cricket team after they chose to bat. Only two players — opener Nahida Khan and No 6 Sana Mir — could reach double digits as the Indian women strangulated their opponents. As many as four Pakistani batters scored in single digits, and they eventually managed 72/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Ekta accounted for Pakistani No 4 Javeria Khan (4), Natalia Pervez (3) and Sidra Nawaz (5) in her spell.
Shikha Pandey, Jhulan Goswami, Poonam Yadav and Deepti Sharma bagged a wicket each.
In their reply, India women got off to a poor start with their experienced batter Mithali Raj falling to Anam Amin for a six-ball duck. Aminwent onto claim the wicket of Deepti Sharma which left the Indian team struggling at 5/2 at one stage.
However, captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana added 65 runs for the third wicket to help the team seal the win. Harmanpreet faced 49 balls and curbed her aggressive instincts, hitting a mere three fours, to remain unbeaten on 34. On the other hand, Smriti scored a 40-ball 38 with four fours. Not a single six was hit in either of the innings.
