It’s common knowledge that Tollywood is a star-powered industry. Films often do well solely because of the stars in their cast.
But for the first time in a long time, we’re witnessing a film being saved from its doom by a character artiste. The recently released Ammammagari Illu is slowly chalking up good collections at the box office because people are flocking to theatres just to see Rao Ramesh in the film.
Naga Shaurya and Shalini, the lead pair, haven’t received much praise for their work, but Rao Ramesh, Shakalaka Shankar and Hema’s performances have been widely appreciated.
The budget film has been produced by Rajesh. A source reveals, “The producer is happy that the film is doing well at the box-office.”
The film’s satellite rights have been sold for Rs 2.75 crore. That combined with the collections from week one indicate that the filmmakers will not suffer major losses.
