Without an iota of doubt, the first half of 2018 has indeed been one of Bollywood’s best year so far, if not the best ever, box-office wise!
2017 ended on a grand note with Salman Khan’s Christmas bonanza, the all time blockbuster TIGER ZINDA HAI which heralded good news for Bollywood. The New Year celebrations continued with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s PADMAAVAT, which despite controversies and against all odds emerged as a blockbuster.
Akshay Kumar’s PAD MAN, which shifted to give way to a solo release to PADMAAVAT, did suffer on that count but still ended up as an above average fare. This was followed by SONU KE TEETU KI SWEETY which performed way beyond expectation and achieved a super duper hit status, netting over 100 crore in the end count. It was followed by Anushka Sharma’s horror flick PARI, which too emerged a below average success.
Meanwhile not to be left behind, Ajay Devgn’s honest IT officer avatar and his fight against ‘kaala dhan’ saw him emerge victorious with Raj Kumar Gupta’s RAID, which achieved a hit status.
Bollywood’s woman power too showed its strength with Rani Mukerji’s HICHKI performing creditably ending up with a hit status.
However the best was yet to come and it came in the form of Tiger Shroff’s Sajid Nadidawala’s, BAAGHI 2 which not only saw the best start of the year 2018 (till then…!) but ended up with an unimaginable run achieving a blockbuster status in the end count.
Soojit Sircar’s Varun Dhawan starrer, OCTOBER too ended up as coverage fare despite its slow pace and hat ke theme.
Hollywood too chipped in with AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, manging the best start of 2018 (surpassing BAAGHI 2) which is its first double hundred (still counting!) netter in India.
The older generation too proved its worth with Umesh Shukla’s Amitabh Bachchan-Rishi Kapoor starrer, 102 NOT OUT being given a warm welcome by the audience and is sure to emerge a semi- hit.
Femalepower once again proved victorious with Alia Bhatt’s RAAZI which not only received critical acclaims but commercial as well and is on way to a hit status.
Well, the first half is not over yet and we have more good news as Bollywood awaits John Abraham’s PARMANU, Sonam-Kareena’s VEERE DI WEDDING and the greatest of them all, Salman Khan’s Eid extravaganza, RACE 3. Need we say more!
