US federal agents in Chicago for illegally staying in the country. US federal agents said they found notes related to prostitution by the two Telugu actresses while they were in the US in January 2018. Sreeraj worked as a production manager in Tollywood before running the racket in the garb of Telugu meets abroad.
Sources in Tollywood said of all the survivors mentioned in the criminal complaint filed by US Homeland Security investigations in an Illinois court, the two well-known actresses hail from Bengaluru and Chennai.
Tollywood sources cite videos of the two actresses attending Telugu association conferences in the US. In one of the videos, one actress is seen thanking Sreeraj for helping her participate in the event in 2016.
Speaking to TOI, Movie Artists’ Association (MAA) president Shivaji Raja said, “We are aware of Sreeraj’s suspicious activities. He… co-produced at least two films. We have been warning artists not to go abroad for performances with those with dubious antecedents… We are meeting on June 24 on the issue. We are requesting artists to inform MAA about performance schedules and attendance at events abroad, so that we can talk to organisers and verify their credentials.”
Actor Anasuya, who in 2016 had criticised Sreeraj for his alleged misbehaviour, told TOI, “Sreeraj contacted me to attend a Telugu association event. I was uncomfortable with the way he spoke… I refused to attend the event. Despite my refusal, he put my picture on posters of the event. I tweeted saying, I have nothing to do with the event.”
